 Movie thread!
Discuss the latest releases, give your ratings, and why!
Okay, doesn't have to be the latest releases, but this summer is shaping up for some great flicks (and some really bad ones) and I don't want to waste my movie seeing bad movies if someone already has!
That sounded mean, but I didn't mean it!
I just saw Indiana Jones 4. It was okay, actually! I was afraid with Lucas' track record he was going to ruin it...like another trilogy I know. Ford was charming despite being around 60, he and Karen Allen were great together, and Shia LeBoeuf (or however you spell his last name) was perfect as always. The chase scenes were a little long, and I think the movie could have benefited from a lot of...plot...but it was entertaining, funny, and worth the matinee price.
On the normal scale of 10, If Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 10, The Last Crusade a 9, Temple of Doom an 8, Crystal Skull is a 7.
On my PERSONAL scale of 4 stars, rating watchibility only, Crystal skull is a 3. A 4 movie can be watched over and over again without losing whatever the heck made you love it in the first place, and a 1 a movie that made you gag and you'll never watch it again--even if it was a great movie (such as the Killing Fields. 10/10, but also 1/4!).
On my list to see is HANcock, Hellboy2, The Happening, Zohan, and the new X-files movie!

Can't wait for Hitchcock and the new Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton hasn't disappointed me yet).
As for recent releases, I saw Iron Man and loved it. It was a 9 out of 10 for me. The only thing that could've made it perfect was a better villain, but I'll forgive them since they had to squeeze in the origin this movie. Can't wait for a sequel.

Here's my summer check list:
Iron Man - May 2
Indiana Jones IV - May 22
Kung Fu Panda - June 6
The Incredible Hulk - June 13
WALL*E - June 27
Hancock - July 2
Hellboy II - July 11
Dark Knight - July 18
That's about it right there. So far I've only seen Indiana Jones, but I hope to hit most of those this summer.

I saw the little skit where he broke something and tried to clean it up, it was cute. Plus, it reminds me a bit of Short Circuit from my childhood, so I might have to take my kid to see it.

Looks cute, yeah, but I must admit, if it doesn't involve a cute, male, protagonist....I'm not too into it. I prefer Hugh Jackman, Oded Fehr....
okaaaay!
Anyways, my sister rented Sweeney Todd for me the other day. I LOVE musicals, right? I really do. King and I, My Fair Lady, Kiss Me Kate--these are some of my favorite movies ever. I HATED Sweeney Todd. I thought it was the most disgusting and depressing movies ever. Granted, it was probably supposed to be that way! But there was no redeeming qualities to it at all! I don't mind dark movies (I loved del Toro's Labyrinth), I don't mind depressing movies (Empire of the Sun), but when there is NO let up...sheesh!
Gets a 8/10 for how it was made, the lyrics, acting and production, but it gets a 0/4 on my scale of watchability!

Anyone seen The Happening? I love Shyamalan's movies (yes, INCLUDING Lady in the Water), but no one I know has seen it.

I just got back from seeing Kung Fu Panda. OMG, it was GREAT. I expected it to be okay, but if you're a martial arts aficionado like myself, it is not only endlessly hilarious, but wonderful fun.
....though, there did seem to be some confusion with names. "Shifu" (N. China title for "Sifu" or "Master") was the NAME of a character. The Sigung (Sifu of a sifu) never calls his student "Shifu.' Eh, but most people would never catch that. It was just a little odd.
Really great animation though. Gets a 4/4 for my personal scale of watchability, and a 9/10 on the normal scale. Some stuff was just a TAD too silly, but then again, it's a kids' movie!

Did the action scenes NOT show the martial arts love? The animators spent TIME on that one.
Plus, you know....
Ski-doosh.
