I Live Under a Rock
I just heard of SF for the 1st time on a Smack Jeeves forum about an hour ago. Thought I would come check it out. I'm on newbie probation so looking to post and prove my valid human status.
In the realm of odd jobs, I'm a dance historian. Which turns out to be surprisingly useful in decoding mythology and strange traditions from my focus area (Mediterranean & Black Seas). I have some really neat stuff on werewolves and I know that sounds like a thing that should not involve dance history but it does. Always a joy to chat about that stuff.
I'm a garden nerd. 80% of my free time is devoted to plants. I always want to know about other people's gardens too. Tell me all about what you grow. I will end up in a long distance relationship with your plants too.
On the comic front, I write the Eternity: Hotaru vampire webcomic. I also write and illustrate The Blood Madam short series. I like to read adventure comics so if you have a good one, lay it on me. I love a good laugh so tell me about your goofy stuff and I'll go check it out.

Hello! C:
I moved away from my parents last October, and my housemates have been venturing into gardening over the past couple of months. We're currently growing a few varieties of lavender, green onions, chives, and cilantro, as well as a few small succulents!

Re: I Live Under a Rock
Hello there and welcome! Soooo... Is this the place I can talk about my potted plants? Please tell me I can talk about my potted plants! There's not that many, but they're my pretty little indoor garden and I'm proud of them. I'll try to get the correct English names here: - Spider plant – So easy to take care of that they grow like wildfire, but are also effective natural air cleaners. That's why I love them (^v^). This variety has solid green leaves, not striped.
- Mother-in-law's tongue – My nightly air cleaner. Is still small-ish, but grows slowly yet steadily. The tallest growth tends to topple over, so maybe I should plant it deeper next time...
- Boatlily or Moses-in-the-cradle – I loooove its deep purple underleaves!
- Dwarf umbrella tree – Is a small bush right now, but maybe I'll let it grow to look more tree-like.
- Crinum, most likely of the Crinum moorei species – I hear was once a popular houseplant in Finnish countryside households, so this individual is very likely of that lineage. Hoping to get it bloom one day, but it's still a youngster with a tiny bulb, so it might take a while(?)
- Aloe vera – My favourite, I like to call them “tentacle plants”. I've managed to not drown them and keep their leaves thick and juicy.
Plant talk: over. We also make a comic about goofy owl people and their special kind of logic to how things in life are done. Maybe you'd enjoy it?

Oh yes! Fellow plant groupies! I also have a mother in laws tongue on my desk. They're very hard to kill. Outside I have strawberries, grapes, mint, hops and salad. The grapes are very resilient considering I'm in the UK and have terrible clay soil. This year, for the first time ever, they have tiny green grapelings . The hops are 6 ish feet long which is not bad considering they were planted this January. Growing fresh salad leaves is easy and saves a lot of money in the summer. It's very satisfying.

Re: I Live Under a Rock
Greetings, I too am on newbie probation! I seek to prove my humanity through further discussion :B
I have an expanding collection of houseplant species, but my favorite one right now is the croton. I bought a colorful grocery store croton last winter, and the new foliage came in solid green. But I read online that when they receive direct, bright light, as they would in their natural environment, they change color! So I slowly acclimated the plant to being outside as spring came around; it lives on a hot, east-facing front porch now. Finally, new leaves are growing in (on every branch!) and they have this really bold yellow color to them. As it ages, I think the yellow will turn orange and eventually a dull red. Good job, croton! I'm such a proud mother
My other favorite is a sad jade that's also gone onto the porch and I guess the porch is just solving all the problems
I wanna read about dancing werewolves

Hi RGraves! Whoa, your background and experience is so cool. I can imagine the crossovers in culture/history/research that could be possible! Look forward to seeing you around the community I sadly am generally useless with plants. I can follow watering instructions at least! But I do love aloe vera - such a cute and handy green friend
